Lombardy

The Province of Bergamo is a province in the Lombardy region, with the city of Bergamo as its capital. It is formed out of 244 comuni, making it one of Italy's biggest provinces. The rivers Serio, Dezzo, Cherio, Brembo, and Adda pass through the province, the Seriana, Cavallina, and Brembana valleys are found here and Bergamo's highest mountain peak is Mount Coca at over 3,000 meters. The Province of Bergamo is visited by many, every year, because of the art and culture, but also for the sporting activities available for tourists.

The Province of Brescia is a Province in Lombardy, made out of 206 comuni and has the city of Brescia as the capital. The landscape in the Brescia province is splendid, the area extends from the Po Valley to the Trompia Valley and in between there are 3 magnificent lakes: Lake Garda, Lake Iseo and Lake Idro. Brescia is one of Italy's most ancient and beautiful cities, with many monuments such as the Tempio Capitolino, the Complesso di Santa Giulia, the Duomo Vecchio and the Duomo Nuovo, the Broletto, the Loggia, the Castello and the Teatro Grande.

The Province of Como is a province in the north of the Lombardy region, bordering Switzerland to the north. The city of Como is its capital and the entire province is made of 160 comuni. The territory is characterized mainly by the Bergamo Alps, but we find other relief here as well, such as hills or, most importantly, the Lake Como. The most important UNESCO World Heritage site here is the Island of Comacina, with the Sacro Monte of Ossuccio, but tourists are also interested in visiting the many medieval towns, nature trails or stay at one of Como's vacation spots.

The Province of Cremona is situated in the Lombardy region, in Italy and it is made out of 115 comuni. Cremona, the province's capital, and the rest of the towns forming the province, are all situated in the central section of Padana Plain, so the relief is flat, crossed only by some rivers, such as Serio and Adda. The province of Cremona is most famous for the agriculture, being a very fertile land, but for history, art and culture as well. Historical buildings, Duomos and castles are visited by many tourists every year.

The Province of Lecco is part of the Lombardy region, in Italy, and it has a total of 90 comuni forming it. The city of Lecco, the capital of the province with the same name, is one of Italy's most important industrial centers. The province is surrounded by magnificent countryside landscapes. Being on the eastern shores of Lake Como, Lecco is a very popular destination for beach lovers, but monuments, historical buildings and castles invite tourists over as well. The Silk Museum, the Church of San Giorgio, the Abbey of Piona in Colico are just a few of the popular tourist attractions.

The Province of Lodi, formed out of 61 comuni, is part of the Lombardy region. Situated right in the middle of the Po Valley, the Province of Lodi is perfect for agricultural activities, but the area is filled with religious sanctuaries and medieval castles. Nature parks and protected areas characterize the province as well, the most famous one being the Regional Park of the Southern Adda, it's name deriving from the fact that the river Adda passes through the area. The Natural Reserve of Monticchie is very interesting as well, many farmhouses and mills characterizing it.

The province of Mantua is situated in the Lombardy region, in Italy, and is is formed out of 70 total comuni. Mantua lies in the southeastern part of Lombardy and is characterized by the many mall towns from the Renaissance period, spread all over the Po Valley. The capital city of the province, Mantua, is surrounded by 3 lakes, Lago Superiore, Lago di Mezzo and Lago Inferiore, making the city seem like a small Venice, but also making it famous for the magnificent scenery. It is also worth mentioning that in the Mantua province, Mantua and Sabbioneta together form another lovely UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Province of Milan is a province in the Lombardy region and it is formed out of 134 total comuni. Its capital is the city of Milan and the province itself is among the most densely populated provinces of Italy, with more than 2,000 inhabitants / sq. km. The territory includes the River Ticino and the River Adda. There is much to be seen in the Milan province, starting with the six regional natural parks, nature reserves and great landscapes, and continuing with museums, churches, palaces and a lot more. The Sforzesco Castle and the Filarete Tower are among Milan's main attractions, together with the very famous Cathedral of Milan, symbol of Milan’s power during the Renaissance period.

The Province of Monza and Brianza is situated in the Lombardy region, in Italy. Created officially after splitting the north-eastern part from the province of Milan, the province became executive in 2009. It is one of the smallest provincial territories of Italy, with only 55 comuni forming it. The capital city of the region is Monza. The most important tourist attractions in the Province of Monza and Brianza are the Duomo, in Monza, Cathedral of St.Peter and St.Paul, in Lissone, St. Valeria Church, in Seregno, Villa Tittoni Traversi, in Desio, the Borromeo Palace, in Cesano Maderno and many more.

The Province of Pavia is a province in the region of Lombardy, with the city of Pavia as its capital and a total of 190 comuni forming it. The province is mainly divided into 3 geographical regions: Lomellina, Oltrepo Pavese and Pavese, all of which are famous for their valleys, mountains, medieval castles and more. There are many Italian monuments to be seen here, the Cathedral in Pavia being one of them, the Basilica di San Michele,the Convent of Certosini, between Pavia and Milan, the Palazzo Ducale and more. We can't forget about Voghera though, with its famous ancient town center and the Visconti Castle.

The Province of Sondrio is situated in the Lombardy region of Italy, it is formed out of 78 total comuni and it has a population of about 200,000 inhabitants. The province borders Switzerland to the North and to the West and it lies exactly in the heart of the Alpines. Vineyards are what best characterize this region, but lots of artistic treasures are to be found here as well. Elegant buildings, narrow streets, old city centres and only part of Sondrio's charm. Many castles and towers, as well as sanctuaries and ski resorts are visited by many tourists every year.

The Province of Varese is part of the Lombardy region, in Italy, and it is formed out of 141 comuni. Situated at the base of the Alpine Hills, the province is characterized by many castles and valleys, woods and rivers. Ten glacial lakes make the province interesting as well, Lake Varese, Lake Maggiore, Lake Ceresio and Lake Verbano are the main ones. Many beautiful villas enrich the landscape, with their lovely gardens, parks and bell towers, not to mention the numerous villages spread all over the territory.
