Emilia Romagna

Bologna is the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy. The province is very beautiful and it consists of 60 comuni which are spread along the Po River Valley. Two other rivers pass through this region, the Reno River and the Panaro River, but mountains and hills are also characteristic for the Province of Bologna. There are many nature sites to be visited here, especially nature and regional parks, but cultural tourism is also something characteristic for Bologna. Main sites of Bologna include the Piazza Maggiore, with San Petronio Basilica and the City Hall, the famous Due Torri, the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca and many more.

The Province of Ferrara consists of 26 comuni, all of which are part of the Emilia Romagna region. The Ferrara province is situated near the Po River Delta, offering tourists magnificent views of the nature. Ferrara is also close to the sea, many seaside resorts along the coast being visited every year by many and it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to its glorious past of art and history. Among the main tourist attractions of Ferrara, there are the medieval Italian palaces, such as the Palazzo Schifanoia, many museums, entire ancient cities and much more.

The Province of Forlì-Cesena is situated in the Emilia Romagna region and it consists of a total of 30 comuni, with the capital being the city of Forli. The province is characterized by hills, mountains but also by the sandy beaches near the seaside. Forlì-Cesena is also an important place of pilgrimage, the ancient Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie being visited by many, but many other attractions are to be seen here as well: Piazza Aurelio Saffi, in Forli, Piazza del Popolo, in Cesena, the medieval village of Longiano, the Civic Archaeological Museum in Forlimpopoli and so on.

The Province of Modena, with the city of Modena as its capital, is a province in Emilia-Romagna. Situated in the heart of the region, Modena is mainly characterized by a mountainous terrain, but the most beautiful plain areas in Italy are here as well. There is much to be seen in Modena, medieval architecture, such as fortresses, castles, towers make the province a wonderful place to visit. Some UNESCO World Heritage Sites are in Modena and tourists make sure not to miss the Cathedral in Modena, with its Ghirlandina Tower.

The Province of Parma is situated in the Emilia Romagna region and it is made up of 47 comuni. It is very famous for the traditional cuisine, the Prosciutto di Parma, sausage production and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese being very popular in Italy and in all Europe. Besides the Italian gastronomic traditions, Parma is well known for the beautiful landscapes as well, Lake Santo Parmense, the largest natural lake in the Emilia Romagna region being situated in this province. Many castles, palaces and Italian historical buildings make Parma an interesting place to visit as well, the Ducal Palace, the Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace in the city of Parma are among the most representative.

The Province of Piacenza is one of Emilia Romagna's provinces, with the city of Piacenza as its capital. The province is quite small, with only 300,000 inhabitants, but it is also extremely beautiful. The valleys of the Tidone River, Trebbia and Val Nure are just a few examples. The Po River passes through the province as well as through many medieval villages that lay here: Bobbio, Castell'Arquato, Fiorenzuola d'Arda and so on. Tourists come to visit the province of Piacenza for its many medieval castles as well, for the Romanesque churches and for the peace, quiet and beauty the province is known for.

The Province of Ravenna is part of the Emilia Romagna region, with 18 comuni forming it. The Ravenna province lies along the Adriatic Sea coast, making it a perfect destination for tourists. but mountain areas and plains characterize the region as well. The Po Delta Regional Park is among the main attractions around here, this UNESCO World Heritage site being famous for its natural values and magnificent landscape. Many Byzantine monuments are to be seen here as well, along with historical Italian buildings, such as the Monastic Complex of San Vitale, the Neonian Baptistery, the Mausoleum of Theoderic and many more.

The Province of Reggio Emilia is part of the Emilia Romagna region, with the city of Reggio Emilia, the most populated city of the province, as its capital. Reggio Emilia is an important University Center, four faculties of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia being located here. But the Province of Reggio Emilia is famous for its historical landmarks as well, Palazzo del Monte di Pieta, the Basilica of San Prospero or the renaissance Princes' Palace being among the most visited ones, but the most beautiful landscapes in this province can be seen by visiting the many medieval castles built many centuries ago.

The Province of Rimini, a province in the Emilia-Romagna region, is among the most visited areas of all Italy thanks to the many seaside resorts, traditional Italian cuisine and more. Rimini is also famous for its medieval past, many historical buildings such as the Arch of Augustus, the most ancient Roman arch, the Tiberian Bridge and so on are standing as proof. Many cultural events take place in the region of Rimini too, cinema festivals, concerts, sports events and more gather lots of visitors to Rimini. The amusement parks in the province are also worth mentioning, Rimini Park, Fiabilandia, Aquafan Water Park and more are among the main tourist attractions in Rimini.
