It’s been on the cards for sometime, but it seems that you now have to book any pay a “tourist tax” before visiting.

I have to admit it’s been a while since I last visited Venice, but has anyone already been through the process?

So apparently you only need to get a ticket to enter Venice on certain weekends between April and July. Furthermore, if you’re working, have booked accommodation or are a resident in the Veneto region, you do not need to pay. You do however need to apply for an exemption pass if your visiting during those days.

If you’re just a tourist visiting for a day trip, and you’re not staying in the Veneto region, then you’ll have to book and pay for your entrance ticket online before arriving in Venice. You only need to pay if you’re entering Venice between the hours of 8.30am and 4pm.

Venice Access Fee

I was just reading on a news website that the first year of this trial scheme has been a success and now they are thinking of raising the fee from €5 to 10 per day in 2025.
