Speed Camera in Italy

For years Italian authorites have used private companies to install and maintain networks of speed cameras accross Italy.

After many cases where the cameras where set up wrong (or intentionally to make money) they have now decided that only police personel can operate these machines, handle the photos or videos ect...

I have heard and seen on television many stories about certain traffic light cameras being tampered with. Recently, there has been a number of speed camera removed by finance police. These cameras had been proven to not give enough time to stop after turning red when travelling within the speed limits resulting in many people receiving fines.

I can't quite honestly understand how on earth the Italian government allowed private companies to this kind of job in the first place?

Re: Speed Camera in Italy

It's not just in Italy. Certain American cities have had similar problems. However, as a rule, if properly handled, the speed cameras do perform their functions very well. If the government controls and practices aren't there, or aren't being honored, that's another thing.
