What are the requirements to rent a car while visiting Italy? Is a standard U.S. driver's license acceptable? We are vacationing there next spring and would like to drive ourselves to our various destinations.

Hello Stephania,

Firstly, I'm not from the US so am unable to give you a personal experiences on the matter. However, It seems that US citizens must apply for an international driving permit before leaving the US.

There is another option, you can have an official translation of your US license in Italian.

I guess the easiest and cheapest option would be to apply for the international permit.
