Your Favorite Italian Artist

Caravaggio

Without question it has to be Michelangelo Merisi da CARAVAGGIO 1571-1610.

For the sheer power and drama of his work. Quite often Caravaggio would use ordinary people from the streets (as opposed to professionals) to model for him and would depict them with all their scars, imperfections and ailments in order that he might better represent the life force and the grace of age of the subject matter. Caravaggio was also known as much for what he left out of his paintings as for that which he included, in particular the use of dark and obscured backgrounds (how many places do you know in renaissance Italy that would have had well lit interiors for example).

It is for these and many other reasons that I have come to appreciate his work.

Francesco Guccini is my fave! I went to his concert in Florence years ago and have loved his music ever since. Give him a guitar and a bottle of red and he'll sit there and play all night.

Ahhhhh... sounds like a man after my own heart... if you exchange the guitar for the "steering wheel bongos" that is. :D :D

You know somat Oneto? If your avatar photo had just a bit more hair, I would nick it from you and use it as mine. Love it.

OK back to the topic.. Lucio Battisti - cant beat his songs for all the wonderful happy memories they bring back for me.. but I like so many different types of music that its difficult to pin down my favourites.

re: Your Favorite Italian Artist

Tony Bennett is my favorite signer in Italy. He is truly an incredibly timeless artist and a wonderfully talented man all around.

I like Italian music alot, but I dont understand it that well. I speak Portuguese, so it is a little different and hard to understand. I am able to understand some of it though.

I enjoy Italian music as well, but most of my exposure to it is through American singers singing opera. What are some good modern-day artists?

There are quite a lot! From older classics as Renato Carossone, Fred Buscgalione to some more contemporary alternative music (Italian/balkan, ska, punk and rock). :p

The are some very good artists but if I have to choose one of them I would prefer Gian Lorenzo Bernini. He was also an architect and used the Baroque style of sculpture. One of Bernini’s greatest works is the Ecstasy of St Therese in the Cornaro Chapel. Take a look of some pictures in the Internet! It looks very nice.

Chiarastella is my favorite Italian artist. She's talented, unique, and for some weird reason she's also completely unknown.
She's now part of an electropop duo called "Kitchen Machine" which is pretty awesome as well.
