What is your opinion about italian wines?

I prefer red wine because the consuming of it is very useful but of course in the reasonable amounts. I like italian wines because they are very light and delicious. I like even the red wine with the fish although it is against the rules. What is your opinion about italian wines?

Re: What is your opinion about italian wines?

I like many different types of Italian wine. My preferred choice is a red called Barolo, however it is quite expensive. I usually buy a nice tuscan red called Santa Cristina which is very good in taste and only costs around €5 a bottle. There are many makes that cost much less but they seem to give me a headache!

In the area in which I live they produce Lambrusco. To be honest, I am not that keen on it as it's a sparkling red wine.

I think that Italian wines are among the finest and best tasting wines in all over the world. I like using them when cooking some meals.

I would also prefer red wines over the white ones, specially when paired with the proper food or a dish, mmmm tasty :D

I am afraid that this is one topic I know nothing about. I am not a drinker at all. I have never been into alcoholic beverages, even though my grandparents always had wine before dinner.

Agree with most of the other posters on this one , a nice red is the way to go. When we were over there , the other half usually had half a carafe of the house red for about 3 euros whilst yours truly sat with a beer that was often twice as expensive so if you're on a bit of a budget in Italy , go for the wine !

Wow to me the Italian wines are the best in the world, specially the red wine, a romantic candle light dinner is never completed until you have two wine glasses and a bottle of classic Italian red wine with you on your table, the aroma in it is awesome and delicious, you can't make yourself leave the bottle after one or two glasses, you feel like having all of it, it has great taste, lovely color, I just love it.

Your not wrong there. Lambrusco Mantovano is as cheap as just over 1 euro a bottle here. Do lambrusco do still red wine? I just dont like sparkling wine.

Chianti Classico is also a good choice. :)

I tried a nice bottle of Tuscan Red last Night. The name of the wine is called Morellino Di Scansano and normally costs around €6 a bottle. It was on offer and i'd thought id give it a try. Have to say, this is a very nice wine and would suggest it to anyone who can find it in their local supermarket.

My favorites are Chianti and Pinot Grigio, depending what I'm pairing with it. The Pinot Grigio tastes great with some frozen berries at the bottom of the glass too!

My dad used to make his own wine every year until he died in 1987. It was a red wine very dry and you drank it room temperature. Boy did it get you drunk. My uncle still makes his own at 80 years old. i sure miss that wine. We always had some with dinner.

I have met very few wines that I didn't like. I certainly won't turn my nose up at a nice Italian wine, but when I am shopping for wine, I usually reach for a California wine. Of course if I was in Italy I'd be drinking all the local wines I could find!

What I like about wines drunk in Italy ( or France ) is that they are a lot cheaper than when they are sold in the UK because of the huge amount of tax our government imposes. Lambrusco is tasty but not very alcoholic whilst Chianti is very nice indeed and can be quite strong.

My favorite is Bella Sera Pinor Noir. Neighbors had a few bottles of it and we had it with a nice chicken cacciotore. It's hard to find where I live but I haven't lost hope.

I prefer a nice chianti myself. I am not a big fan of Pinot Grigios, as they seem rather dry and a little bitter for my taste. If I drink white wine I typically prefer a sauvignon blanc.

Italian Wines

I enjoy white sparkling wines from the Prosecco Designation of Origin especially with shellfish and fish during this time of year ... It is one of my all time favorites.

In Reds, my favorites tend to be crianza, or Reserva fermented in oak, and are from: Tuscana, Piemonte, Abruzzi, Sardinia and Sicilia appellations. However, I also enjoy a good chilled Lambrusco from Emilia Romagna.

Puglia: I understand that there is a re-engineering of numerous wine estates in southern Puglia, and the planting of indigenious Greek origin grape varieties in this region. Foreign Oenologists and winemakers have been purchasing up the old wineyards. I look forward to sampling these in the next couple of weeks when I shall be in Puglia on vacation at our Condo.

Does anyone have the latest on Puglia´s Wines ?
