What is your opinion about an old Italian cinematograph?

I think that may be I have used the wrong term when I said "old". I think that it is indisputable fact that the cinematograph of the 60th is the gold epoch of the Italian film industry. But are you agreeing with me or you have another opinion?

Everyone knows Felines, Antonioni, because it is the most famous directors.
More recently, Italian film won an Oscar as best foreign film.

It's difficult to disagree! Fellini's movies capture an essence of Italy like few others, and his work feels timeless. The movies feel as relevant today as they did the day they where released.

I'm not saying that the 'contemporary' cinema has nothing to offer, as there are a lot of beautiful movies released recently - its just a personal preference I guess.

I like how everyone knows and remembers the "old" directors and cinematographers of Italy or italian connection, but I don't know about the modern, contemporary cinema of italy. Is there anyone who can tell me more about it? Or the times of famous Italian cinema are in downfall?

I'd say it has very different standards in comparison with the American stuff. More time is dedicated to the mental part and inner struggles. That's why many Americans can't stand watching long European stuff.
