Italy planned on introducing a web tax on companies that advertise products in Italy. Luckily, the tax has been scrapped for now as it may not conform with European Law.

The aim was to force anyone who wishes to advertise products in Italy, only be allowed to do so, through companies that have a registered tax presence in Italy.

This was aimed at large companies such as Google, Yahoo and Facebook.

They say the tax has been shelved until there is an agreement at European Level.

Thoughts?

Even if they were allowed to do this, how would they go about setting up such a system?

I presume they would force Italian ISP to geo block all ads from non Italian Ip addresses.
