The Rising Cost Of Olive Oil

Earlier in the year there were reports of an olive oil shortage due to a poor season. It was reported that the price of olive oil may go up.

I went shopping a couple of weeks ago, and it has finally happened. My usual olive oil has gone up 10 pence a bottle. I had stocked up with a few bottles, but it seems the shortage has led to the increase in the price, and it may go up further depending on the stocks of olives.

I would stock up now in case the price goes up again.

Unfortunately the price of items like this will fluctuate dramatically as its tied to the amount that's available. Next year the crop might flourish and so the price will drop again, nobody knows and that's the most frustrating part.

Olive Oil is always expensive where I live, but it has been more expensive lately. The price always bounces around, but it's still annoying.

Here in the UK it's not expensive as such, but depending where you go can have a big difference in price for some reason.

I've found that a lot of stores seem to decide what prices they want to charge rather than it being a set price, so often that makes a huge difference.

I think that the industry is not in a big trouble at all, sometimes prices because of the shop keeping company thinks so.

I think olive oil in general is pretty expensive. I tend to buy a big container of it at Costco or another wholesaler. I use it a lot but I have to say it does last me a long time (months). However for a cheaper option, they sometimes have coupons for it (as long as you aren't brand loyal). Trader Joes also has good prices for olive oil and vinegar. It comes in all different sizes.

I do try to use less of it when I cook for cost savings and health reasons, so I recently bought a spray for it. It works wonders!

I've actually seen the olive oil sprays but noticed they're even more expensive than the traditional tubs, so that put me off, especially as I wasn't sure if they would be any good.

Now you've said they are I'll definitely try one, I don't mind paying a bit more for the spray aslong as I know what's inside is going to be up to the quality we normally get.

I'm not sure how I would use it as a spray, because I use it to mix my pasta and to drizzle it over vegetables. I think a good bottle with a spout that can control or drizzle easily is as good. Also how and where you store it can make a difference, and I do think glass bottles tend to keep the oil fresher. I know there are also the huge tin cans that people can buy, but I actually like them for how they look, as most are quite arty looking.
