SEPA - Single European Payments Area

What is SEPA and how will it effect us?

From the 1st of January 2008 the new SEPA system will be replacing the traditional 'Coordinate Bancarie' (BBAN = ABI and CAB code + Account Number) in Italy.

You will now need to use the full IBAN instead of the BBAN code for making electronic payments in Italy and the rest of Europe.

If you make regular electronic payments via online banking in Italy you will need to find out the IBAN (International Bank Account Number)

Went to pay my rent today via bank transfer and they refused to as i did not have the full IBAN number but only the old system (cin, abi, cab & no conto)

You now need the full IBAN number to make any bank transfer payments in Italy.

Luckily, I called my landlord and he provided me with the new details.
