I adore wood fire oven pizzas - they're so delicious, and probably my number one go-to take out food.

Just outside of Naples though, in a town called San Vitaliano, the mayor of the area has put a ban to the use of wood fire ovens.

“High levels of pollutants have been registered during 2015, “ the edict from the mayor said.

For this reason, “businesses involved in baking and catering, such as pizzerias are forbidden from using biomass fuels (wood, wood chips, pellets, charcoal etc) for cooking food in appliances such as open and closed ovens”.

What do you think about this? Smart idea, or unbelievable?

Wow, this is big news. This is going to affect the pizzeria industry big time. I think pizza tastes best when it is made in a pizza oven. I can't imagine that it will taste the same if places stop using this.
How long will it take before the law goes into effect?

From the article I read it was taking place instantly, but I'm wondering how long it will go on for - the article didn't mention an end date. I'm guessing they'll probably monitor the levels of pollution and then make a decision whether they can be used again.

It was surprising to me too as I love wood fire pizzas too, and I think they're more traditional too when made that way! Hopefully things will get better when it comes to air quality and they'll be able to start them up again.

Hmm.. Okay I can't imagine that would last for very long. The pizzeria owners and workers are probably going to try to fight it. I don't know how much it populates the air but I am guessing there are other things that are worse for the environment.

I thought the same - surely they would be looking at bigger businesses and polluters than small family owned pizzerias. It was a shock to me that they would take such drastic measures!
