Italy
A few hours ago I was chatting with a friend of mine from Canada and she told me she had just got home from the grocery store where she had bought carbonara sauce. I was like "WHAT?" I had never heard of pre-made carbonara sauce, it's a very simple recipe and it's made with fresh whisked eggs so I couldn't wrap my mind around it. I explained the recipe to her and she promised me she wouldn't buy it again in the future. :) So now I'm curios, how many of you buy carbonara sauce? What's inside it?

No way. The only thing that you should buy pre made for any kind of italian sauce is probably passata di pomodoro and that's stretching things a little since you could take any Sunday for making a giant pot of your own passata and then store it on bottles for later use like my Nonna used to do. It is going to take you the whole day but the kitchen is the soul of the home and everybody should help. Then, when you feel like it, pop one of those bottles open and prepare some nice Bolognese sauce.

I've seen carbonara sauces over here in the UK aswell, but even I haven't stooped to buying those yet!

To be honest while I do buy some pre-cooked sauces, I don't even think I'd want to buy pre-made carbonara sauce as I'd want to know just exactly what they HAD put in it, just to preserve it for a start!

Zuccaro, your post brought a smile on my face. My Nonna used to make the best passata di pomodoro ever and I have fond memories about it. It was a big day for all the family, everybody would help and we had a lot of fun and at the end of the day we had enough passata di pomodoro for the whole year. It was delicious! Nowadays people are too lazy to do it (myself included) and they buy it.
Pwarbi, you nailed it, I buy premade sauces once in a while but I wouldn't never dream to buy carbonara sauce, it has fresh eggs in it and I would be worried about the amount of chemicals they used to preserve it.

Along with the chemicals used, it's also a little lazy aswell to but carbonara sauce rather than making it.

I know we all have busy lives, but if you're that busy you don't have time to make carbonara sauce, then you seriously need to look at your time management skills, haha.

I like all white sauces and I have tried many versions of carbonara. I was making my own versions of course. The combination with cheese, bacon and eggs is very good and I like to do this with bechamel as well but I never use these pre made sauces. Once you try a good, professionally made sauce from some good ingredients you will disappointed in these pre made sauces.

I must be one of the few people out there that isn't the biggest fan of Carbonara sauce. I adore all tomato based pasta sauces, but creamy sauces just aren't my jam. It's funny because everyone I know seems to list off carbonara as one of their favorites, but I just don't care for it! Give me arrabbiata over carbonara any day of the week! :)

Ah, delicious carbonara. I don't think my aunt made some with premade stuff from the supermarket though. She made it from scratch, and that's why it has a very distinct flavor from those I have tasted who use commercial ones. I guess when it comes to food, it might be longer to prepare them starting from scratch, but it always is worth it in the end, as the taste can attest to it.

Well this is really not the sort of thing that I should be reading about late night on a Saturday, because now my cravings for a late night snack are through the roof and that is not really following the diet, but oh well. This sounds like a winner, but I would have to agree with other users in wanting to avoid the pre-made stuff, but you have to do what you have to do. I had some pretty good carbonara dishes when I was over there...takes me back a little bit.
