It seems that Italy will introduce new smoking regulations, real soon!
The first time I came here to Italy, I was (pleasantly) surprised to see that smoking indoors, in public places is forbidden. If you wanted to smoke a cigarette at -20 degrees outside, you would have to smoke it while freezing to death! Oh, did I mention I used to be a smoker? :) Yup, I used to smoke myself, and still I thought banning it in public places is a GOOD idea!

Now, they're looking to introduce new regulations for smokers.
For instance, they're thinking of forbidding smoking while driving (or, while you are in a car, especially with a child). I thought this was already forbidden! I mean, smoking while driving is just awful and, like Carlo Rienzi, the president of the consumers' association, Codacons, was quoted, fifteen percent of road accidents are caused by the distraction of drivers while smoking.

What do you think? Do you agree this is a good thing? I wonder if smokers will protest against it, but they shouldn't, I also used to smoke but I would always make sure to not disturb anyone!

I think smoking in a car should be a personal thing, because then where would it stop? Eating and drinking? A car is your own space, more accidents are caused by people texting or speaking on the phone. Even people using speakerphones don't concentrate or when they have a GPS on. How could they monitor it anyhow?

Italians like to smoke and infringing on their rights is something I doubt they will take kindly to.
