Apparently, Mc Donalds did not understand how upsetting their commercial, which indicated children in Italy wanted their burgers and fries vs Italian pizza.

So, to it make clear, the Neapolitan Pizza Association created their own video showing children turning their noses at Happy Meal's.

That's so funny. Italian's are truly protective of their cultural heritage and this shows how they would never want their children to prefer American food to Italian food. I also, think that good Italian pizza is not really junk food, so a child is definitely better off eating pizza rather than a Happy Meal. I'm surprised that McDonald's crossed the line with a commercial like that.

I know, right! Guess Mc d's needed to take a closer look at who their marketing audience was before airing! Here in the U.S. no big deal. True about the pizza not in the category of the Happy Meal, they sure did not want their food to be dismissed like they did in that ad! Even talked about suing, not sure, how that will turn out...

While I think they certainly have a point, I dint think Italian cuisine will have too much to worry about when it comes to competition from fast food chains such as McDonald's!

Not to say McDonald's isn't acceptable quality when it comes to food, it's just in aimed at at a different kind of audience I think you could say...

Oh, lol. I agree, and the Italians seem to agree, as well. There is no comparison between Italian cuisine and fast food burgers and fries! I do not think, this has to do with any concern over competition, as so much as offense! Quite frankly, I have great respect for the Italian community stepping forward and saying something like, hold on a minute, step on back, you can not infer children do not like or enjoy our healthy traditional food!

Hmm, as far as McD's audience, I think they would like to reach every market, but they just got told, they way they went about it was not acceptable, for sure! :)

Well, I would actually have no problem to believe kids prefer a Happy Meal over a pizza -- fries, fat, salty, sweet, you know, kids love that. Seriously. I mean, my family also comes from a place with a strong traditional cuisine (and delicious, at that) which the kids really liked -- but going to McDo? That was a party for them! They really saw it as something special.

Of course, though, I understand that from a grown-up food-loving perspective, this seems like a sacrilege. But honestly. Bring a kid to a fancy restaurant to eat perfectly cooked and arranged gastronomy food -- or give the kid a plate of mac'n'cheese with ketchup and the kid will usually go for the not-fancy, not healthy dish. It feels like an insult to common sense, but hey. I mean, if they were wired to like healthy and delicate things, they would not love candy this much.

That said, they should not be encouraged to gorge on unhealthy thing and to get some sugar addiction and general bad tastes. But I mean -- y'know. Kids will be kids, and if there's a toy with their meal, they'll like it even better.

lol Well said, and true will be kids. I guess the main thing caught my attention is that someone would actually step up and say, wait a minute, you can not compare your food to our food. And then to make a spoof on the their commercial, well it really did take me by surprise. Of course, when my kids were younger, it was about collecting the toys from the Happy Meal and playing in the Fun Land! lol

You are quite right, and it's surprisingly ballsy from McDonalds to pull something like that when they have suffered this many blows to their reputation already.
