If you were to do a romantic dinner and a movie, would you pick a movie set in Italy. I think a movie with beautiful sceneries of Italy alone would get a couple sentimental for a romantic trip to Italy or even to plan a honeymoon. If the movie itself is also a romantic film, then it is probably the ultimate stage for an evening of romance.

I was wondering what some of the top choices are for a romantic movie set in Italy. Maybe, something you would pick up for a movie night on Valentine's Day. My favorite is Roman Holiday. I love Audrey Hepburn. However, another beautiful film for both story and setting is The Postman. It is about the famous Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, who is exiled to a small island in Italy for political reasons.

What is your top pick?

Oh! I loved Roman Holiday. It was such a lovely movie, the essence of a romantic comedy, but without the formulaic triteness we see nowadays. I'm also happy to hear about a movie on Neruda, I was not aware this existed.

Now for a "beautiful scenery"... I have to say, Letters to Juliet did a number on me! Probably because Verona is one of the big towns I still did not get the chance to visit. But also because I like how it depicted the cobbled streets, the pasta hanging in the house, the simple and old time charm of the romantic city. It does not feel superficial. I was charmed.

A few good romantic Italian movies are "tre metri sopra il cielo" and "ho voglio di te". They are geared towards the younger teenage crowd but I still enjoyed them a lot. They are based off of famous books by the Italian author Frederico Moccia. Another good one is Under the Tuscan Sun. Not everyone loved the book or the movie it but I didn't think they were that bad. I though Diane Lane fit the role well. And obviously Tuscany is gorgeous.

I am not a huge fan of romantic movies, I am more into action movies, but I do recall a couple of 007 movies recorded in Italy with romantic scenes... :D This last James Bond even lost the love of his life there...

Some women may find the charisma of James Bond and few sultry scenes in the 007 movies romantic to watch. I think the one where Bond looses the love of his life is quite sentimental to watch. It really sets off who James Bond is.

The problem with romantic Italian movies is the general idea of the characters profession. It's pretty hard for me to endure a film about Italians having international, world class romance on the silver screen, knowing that the country's general population are having a rough time finding jobs. (There's nothing romantic about job searching.)

That's why I never once was interested in romance in Italian movies. It's hard to relate. I would rather just read about it. :D Seriously, I would read the news about Italian art trying to articulate the romantic elements and dwell on them by reading and re-reading the stories over and over. ;)

But, I would be very interested in watching "Roman Holiday", up to the possibility of watching the film regularly every week. If I were living in Audrey Hepburn's time. But I am not. Romantic comedy with business in mind for the topics, then.

It is funny, we have the same problem in some parts of the US when it comes to jobs, but we like to drown ourselves in romance and comedy to get away from it all. It is just a way to disengage from the stress. You can't imagine how much the media has built up 50 Shades of Gray for its Valentine's Day release. I'm pretty sure it is going to sell out everywhere.

I think one of my favourite movies is "Only You" with Robert downey jr and Marissa Tomei. They show Italy and and it really makes you want to go there and find the romance! I would go to a nice romantic place for dinner and then go home and watch one of my favourite love stories on the couch, "Only you" I have made my husband watch it a thousand times!! One day he will take me to Positano!

Yeah Roman holiday was fantastic. I'm neutral towards Audrey Hepburn but she was excellent in that

I'd suggest checking Innamorato Pazzo out. Pretty cool storyline. However, it's more of a romantic comedy than the straightforward romantic movie. But Adriano Celentano's acting is brilliant, as usually. Just watch and have no regrets.

I loved the movie Under the Tuscan Sun. It's not all romance - in fact quite the opposite as the lead character is dealing with a divorce and only has new romantic potential towards the end of the movie. But it was a beautiful film about growth and change and dealing with all of the emotions that come with divorce - so I think it was romantic in a personal growth and development way!
