This great man has given us all more than we could imagine. His sweets have brought many smiles all over the world. Everyone loved Nutella, not to mention Rafaelo, both of which have become "icons". My brother and I almost always buy Nutella, it's so delicious. No other can compare...

Rest in Peace.

"Ferrero was the patriarch of the eponymous family empire best known for its Nutella and Ferrero Rocher chocolates, and which also brought Kinder Surprise eggs and Tic-Tacs to the world." says the Guardian
( link to the Guardian Article: http://www.theguardian.com/world/20...-nutella-and-italys-richest-man-dies-aged-89; "Michele Ferrero, Italy's richest man and owner of Nutella brand, dies aged 89" )

Here's more on abc news : http://abcnews.go.com/International...ro-maker-nutella-dies-valentines-day-28973720 , Article title: "Creator of Nutella Dies on Valentine's Day"

My husband was actaully sad about this yesterday. Nutella is such a huge part of the Italy identity. Kind of like Hershey is for Americans. Rip

I had no idea about the man behind all my favorites until I saw this thread. It is funny that I have been finishing a box full of Ferrero Rocher that I go for Valentine's day and then I came across this news. I always keep Nutella in my home as well. May he rest in peace.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear such sad news :( May he rest in peace, he has brought so many smiles on our faces (I always smile when I get chocolate! Let alone a box of Ferrero :) ).

I hope the brand will not suffer after such a tremendous loss. I know his company was already handed over to his sons, but the article on abcnews keeps using past tense! ("The company was one of Italy's most successful...", why do they use past tense??)

I'm not a fan of Nutella anymore, but I do love Tic Tacs! I think from now on, every time I have one, I'll most certainly think fondly of the man who invented them :)

I'm glad the company is still in the family and that they are keeping it that way. I never liked nutella, but Ferrero Rocher I do like and even the corny adverts. In Chinese they have their own name for the chocolates, they are known as the 'golden chocolate balls'. This is one company that is keeping Italy afloat and in an industry that will always last.

This is sad. He brought a great contribution not only to Italy but to the World. Nutella is so great and its like the next best things to peanut butter.

(I made a post about this in general discussion last night. Guess I've got to go delete it, oops.)

Yeah, I heard about this the other day and it's so sad! :(

Sorry for putting it here, then. I just thought... well, he had invented some of best Italian sweets, not only Nutella, which is almost everyone's favourite, but also Ferrero Rocher chocolates - I still adore Rafaelo. It's my all time favourite. I guess this was the reason why I put this here.
