I don't know if all countries do this, but here in Italy there are many castles that are used to organize New Year's parties. They cost quite a lot (prices start at about €100 /person) but then again, all 31st of December parties have the same cost!

I was looking through the 'offers' a few days ago, as I do every year. I have to say, it's tempting :)
Have any of you ever thought about spending the last night of the year in a castle? Have a medieval themed New Year's?

I wonder if it's fun or not, I mean.. you don't really know anyone there, except for the people you go with. Should be an interesting experience though, spending a night in a real castle :)

It does sound interesting, but it would depend a lot on the type of party, a medieval-themed one would be absolutely incredible in my opinion, but with New Years parties I also think about whether the place has accommodations to sleep in, which would depend on the castle in this case, there's nothing worse than not being able to drink on New Year's because you have to drive home or to the hotel after the party.

That sounds really amazing, spend the new year in a medieval castle sounds like something unique and $100 is not that much. If I was there in the new eve it would be something I would try for sure, considering I could afford it.

Hmm... I didn't even give sleeping a lot of thought. Oops :P
I guess they have rooms available, although I don't recall seeing this mentioned in any of the "offers", but I'm sure it's impossible that they let you drive all the way back home, especially if you came with your entire family or group of friends!

Speaking of family, you're right, @Peninha the price isn't very high (they start at about €100 and go up, depending on the castle, depending on what they serve at dinner and so on, but they don't skyrocket), but for a family of 4 or more, I'd say yikes :D

Anyway, I have spent New Year's at home 2 times already (2 years ago and 5 years ago), and well... it's boring! Seriously, I need family or friends or at least something to remember. So, if nothing gets planned one year from now, I'm actually thinking about a nice medieval themed New Year's, in Italy of course :)
Plenty of castles here, Castell'Arquato comes to mind, it's the closest (I think) and they also organize end of the year parties :)

That sounds amazing. In the US we have a lot of parties set up in the same way in hotels, but I don't know of any in a castle. I usually end up visiting Europe in the winter, I'm going to have to keep this in mind for a New Years Eve on Italy. I have actually always wanted to spend a New Years Even in Venice.

Well, this is definitely an interesting thought. I would love to spend a New Year's Eve in a castle - same is with Christmas. I bet it would be an amazing experience. But for the time being, it's impossible for me, and definitely too expensive. Maybe some time in future...

The offer seems a little fuzzy, though. Not everything seems clear about it. Of course, it is not likely that you would leave in the middle of the night - most castles are high on the hills, so they aren't really accessible, especially during the night. It may be dangerous and who knows what else. It doesn't seem logical. Besides, the room is probably included in the price you pay or perhaps, you must pay an additional sum. Anyway, it should be mentioned whether this is included or not.

But all in all, this concept is very interesting and definitely appealing! It would be a great experience. New Year Eve's at home can be boring, true, so something as memorable as this is definitely one of the better options.

This is indeed a mystery for me as well.
Most of the offers I've seen specify that, in the €90, €120... whatever the price is, they include drinks, food, music... ecc., party stuff in general. Since I was never interested in actually going to such a party, I admit I didn't bother to pay much attention to all the details.

But I did now, since Aurelia does have a point!
I found one offer, somewhere in Vale d'Aosta, where you get to party and then, if you wish, you can sleep in one of 2 hotels. However, they do not specify if you pay for the room separately, or if the room is included in the price... weird... I guess one just has to ask when booking the seats for the party.
Other offers I've checked out more attentively, say that you have the possibility to also get a room or they say the hotel has an agreement with the castle. To me, this doesn't sound like the room is included in the price :)

No, it sounds like you have to pay an additional sum which is, well, a little sneaky. You should specify the price and the accommodations you can get, that's only natural. People have to ask, too. But writing down the price on the website would save a lot of time - at least one thousand questions. This way, it's ambiguous, people are confused and naturally, they'll seek information.

€90 isn't really much. That about how much my brother pays for a place - he wishes to spend it with friends away from family... if you have to pay for a half-empty small apartment that much, than it's certainly acceptable for a party spent in a castle. Of course, if a lot of people go, then it would strain the budget, but oh well. You want to have fun? You have to pay for it.

That is interesting! I would love to do that one year. It is something different. It would be so cool just to be able to spend a night in a castle especially one that has such history.

That sounds epic, seriously! I think it's a good deal, actually - for something that memorable I'd be willing to pay that price, and I'm pretty frugal with money generally speaking. A themed new years would be a bunch of fun too, in my opinion. Getting everyone to dress up would be so unique!

Castles are a pretty European thing, as you wouldn't find a lot (if any) in Asia or in the Americas. Yes, they are big, grand, and full of history, but they are also pretty peaceful, if you go there in a time where there are not a lot of tourists that keep taking pictures of the place. My friend went to a German castle once, sent me a bunch of pictures, and her family was the only one there, so it was so peaceful and you can truly appreciate the architecture, design, and grandeur of the place.
