I rarely watch any TV but yesterday I saw the news and I saw one particular piece of news that is terrifying.
A caretaker of the zoo near Turin dies while feeding the tigers. He was attacked by the wild creatures and mauled until he died :(

I cannot believe that this could have happened. Why did he go in there? The tigers weren't tamed, they are dangerous animals.

I'm particularly sorry for his wife who was the one to raise the alarm. I hope never to hear about such accidents in the future.

I heard that one too, the caretaker was an old people, used to stay with the animals..but as you say, a wild animal should never be trusted too much (and also not put in cages).

True! Wild animals should be left in the wild.

As a follow up, I heard on the news last week that the tigers were taken away. The old man's wife is very upset.
The wild animals were all she had, they were her life.
Now she has no animals to take care of, no husband because the tigers killed him, now she has no purpose in her life.

The news said that it's going to be very hard for her to end up having a normal life from now on as taking care of the tigers WAS normal to her.

I hadn't heard about this, as it hasn't made international headline so obviously hasn't reached the UK, but that's awful! :( Even sadder when you hear the wife's side of it. They really should implement some sort of system which allows zoo animals to be fed in such a way that the keepers don't need to get right in there. Some animals are docile enough, and can learn to adapt to being in contact with humans when they're in zoos, but tigers (and also animals like polar bears) are renowned for not becoming calmer and more used to human contact when placed in captivity.
