It seems that a new James Bond film is in the making and Mr.Bond will be swapping his Aston Martin for a Fiat 500.

The producers are planning a high speed car chase through the streets of Rome which will be shot during February and March next year. The chase will end near to the Vatican but it looks like the 500 will be crushed in the process.

Rome will host three key action scenes for the new movie, including night-time chases, with one car ending up in the Tibur River, according to Italian news agency.

Bond will parachute from a helicopter onto Ponte Sisto, a 15th-century pedestrian bridge.

There will also be scenes shot outside of Rome - in the Royal Palace of Caserta, known as the Versailles of Italy, in Campania.

Huh, I've never really considered the Fiat 500 to ever be a bond car. I remember when I watched the remade Italian job (with Mark Wahlberg) and was pleasantly surprised at the inclusion of the Mini Cooper as a plot device. But, considering Rome is a very very ancient city with many narrow roads, I think they have a point in using the 500. I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment of the Bond franchise!

But... Aston Martin is such an iconic Bond car. I know its not the first time they used a non-British car but it didn't really end well the last time I can recalle off the top of my head. There was a bit of an uproar when the BMW Z8 was announced as the car in 'The World is Not Enough' the film makers decided that to appease some of the fans they would destroy it. Lets hope the Fiat doesn't meet the same fate.

I also feel strongly about Aston Martin. It's my favourite type of car! But I am looking forward to the new movie.

Too bad Judy Dench has left. Sigh. No M without her.

Bad idea to take away from tradition. The Bond films are known for the Aston Martins and a few other cars. The fiat just doesn't fit the bill or the vibe of the film. Too much tampering with the originals can destroy a legacy, even James Bond.
