I know many things get lost in translation, and I thing Italian food has suffered this way when it has been exported.

For example, Americans understand pepperoni to be a type of salami whereas pepperoni in Italian of course means peppers.

Also, I wonder how many visitors to Italy are disappointed to receive a glass of milk instead of a caffè latte when they order a latte! ;)
 
Ahahahha!!! The one with caffe latte is a classic mistake!! :rolleyes:

I have actually made a mistake just 2 days ago. Although I have lived here for 5 years now, I have bought minced red pepper instead of paprika!! So, when I arrived home, I saw that I have bought 3 types of pepper: black, white and red. And I don't even like pepper that much :confused:
Talk about mistakes!
 
Not to worry. The saving grace about mistakes is that, painful as they are at the time, they teach us very quickly and we (usually!) don't make the same mistake twice.

Another of my bug bears is people who pronounce bruschetta as bruscetta! :eek:

It's true also the opposite.
The first I've been in the US i was really confused about the Pizza with Pepperoni, i was thinking it was peperoni but mistyped :)
