Is there such a thing as healthy Italian food?

I love Italian food. Pastas, garlic, onion, delicious sauces, ect. Is there any way to eat dishes like this and loose weight? I need low calorie or low fat recipies for Italian food. Anyone know any?

YES! Italians use oil (Olive) and vinegar seperately. They don't mix egg into oil without useing some spice,as Tyme,Basil etc.Mayo is French and some Italian sandwiches, mostly cold cuts with out lettuce use Mayo. But subs ...NO. The sub originated in Italian Deli's in USA and was a way to use up the oddly cut and end cuts of lunch meat. They were put on a "sub" shaped bun.The "Poor boy " was the same sandwich but was served on slices of bread, preferable an artisan bread.
Lettuce was added later as refrigeration came into play but the original lettuce was actually cabbage because it didn't require refrigeration.I still prefer my subs and poorboys with thinly shreded cabbage and vinegar and oil, but mayo is good with corned beef and rye.
Mind you things change but I'm talking about the originals.

I'm so old I remember this stuff!

any food can be made healthy if you are mindful of what your eating, why just limit yourself to pasta and breads? I am sure there are many tasty things you might enjoy that are healthy

We are conscious about weight lose too. My mother just substitute the ingredients that contains more calorie or sugar.

Yes. Of course there is. One fact of that is that pasta does not really make people fat. That's one good thing about on Italian food don't you think? Besides, it all depends on the ingredients you're gonna used in it.

Sure! Exercise, exercise, and did I mention, exercise? Take lots of walks or go jogging. For me, I don't really care. If I'm going to eat Italian, I'm going to enjoy it! I'll be a rabbit later.

Well I eat pasta and I still lose weight. I like whole wheat pastas alot, they are alot better. You can use fat free cheese, or none at all. I just eat smaller portions and I exercise, and I do fine with it.

The foods you have mentioned anna are all god for you. Make your own basic tomato sauces for ppasta withut adding anything that is fattening or unhealthy.

You have the key here, Suzana. Whole wheat is definitely much healthier and would be the way to go. I don't like it myself, but if you have a taste for it, then it's a winner. The small portions help, too. I'm not a big meal eater for anything. I actually like the concept of eating several times a day but in small portions each time.

What they eat isnt classed as healthy but have you seen how well their older generation look, all that fruit, veg and olive oil must be doing something right lol

I'm not sure what you mean? Italian food is famous all around the world for being healthy. Please provide some examples.

I eat pasta nearly every day and i dont gain weight! I guess i could class my self as the younger generation and i and almost all people i know eat fresh fruit, plenty of veg and always use olive oil.

A few examples:

Garlic bread does not need butter!

Bruschetta
Just toast some bread (Bruschetta) and peel a garlic clove and rub the garlic on top of the hot bread. Watch it disintigrate into the bread. Spinkle some extra virgin olive oil on top and add some salt for extra taste.

Salads

Cut some luttuce, slice some tomatoes and add what ever veg you like in a salad. Sprinkle with olive oil a few drops of balsamic vinegar, a touch of salt and mix together.

This is not healthy?
