More people are house-sitting and using that as a way to travel around and to get to know different areas. I have a friend that does this in America and she does pet sitting.

Usually house-sitting requires you to look after any animals, look after the house for security reasons, tend to the plants or gardens, and general maintenance.

I am hoping to find some places in Italy; I have some sites that lists properties, but not many are in Italy. Has anyone heard of any specifically for Italy or Europe?

To be honest, while this type of thing IS becoming more popular, I'm not sure if its something that would appeal to me.

To go and stay in somebody else's home can be a little awkward when they're there, when they aren't I think I'd feel even more uncomfortable, especially if you break something (which I probably would)

For insurance purposes if a property is unoccupied for 6o days or more than it invalidates any claims, so even if you have some one checking it's not the same. also it prevents robberies and also any squatters.

It works both ways, and it can save on pet sitting fees and allows the animals to stay at home. I have done this before and it's fine, but is also a way to save on accommodation costs and still have independence. Some house-sitting jobs can be intensive, and others do require some contribution to bills.

I agree that there's many positives to doing something like this, for both the house owner and the person staying, all I was saying was that for me in particular I wouldn't enjoy something like that.

Maybe I just like my own independence too much and I think living in a person's home when they're not there, I'd always feel a bit on edge.
