Hоw Is It Living In Vеniсе? Dо Pеоplе Еvеr Gеt Tirеd Оf Thе Wаtеr?

We have been studying in our world history class when I was in high school about the different nations and countries around world and also their well-known tourist spot. And I remember Italy is known as a "water city" which means the streets are covered with water and the means of transportation is by boat known as Gondola, a Venetian rowing boat that transports tourists around the city. But I never asked our History class teachers on how do the Italians lives in their city where water is everywhere. This is where I am also interested to know on how they do their day-to-day way of living in such a watery places all over.

Interesting question really, I am guessing that many people instead of getting the car or the bike, they simply get the boat? :)

Italy actually is a country and not all the cities have a lot of canals @Gil Camporazo, only Venice that I am aware of. I believe that even if there are a lot of canals, life is pretty normal, apart from the permanent presence of tourists there, tourist attractions and souvenirs.

I've been to Venice many times and one resident told me that the only thing they're tired of are the tourists. She said the tourists don’t seem to know what common courtesy is, they run around half naked, sit on the monuments, sit on the floor and bridges and have a picnic, put their feet on the furniture, stop right in the middle of the street, or bridges causing traffic jams etc. She complained alot about tourists behaviour around Venice.

No matter where a person lives, no matter how beautiful it is, I think that we all get sick of seeing our surroundings and wouldn't mind a change of scenery. Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but I wouldn't want to live there for exactly the reasons in the OP, I'd get sick of the water, but if you are born and brought up there then it would just become a part of life.

Turning it around, if a person left Venice then they would probably end up missing the water and that way of life in the same way that we would probably miss our roads and fast food restaurants on every corner, and that's something else they don't tend to have as many of.

I would think that it would have it fair share of difficulties, or at least would take some time getting used to. It is gorgeous though, and I loved it when I was there. Even then though, living there might be a lot different.

I think that you'll find that with most cities though, and no matter how much you enjoy yourself when you're there, or how beautiful a place is, living and working there is always a lot different than just going there on holiday. Venice is a great city and it's probably one of those cities that I think that everyone should visit at least once in their life as there isn't another place like it in the world. How long you stay there before it starts to get tedious will depend a lot on how much you as a person have got, because when I have been it's a very relaxed way of life I found, and maybe not one that I could ever get used to permanently
