Focaccia (Italian pronunciation: [foˈkattʃa]) is a flat oven-baked Italian bread product similar in style and texture to pizza doughs. It may be topped with herbs or other ingredients. Focaccia is popular in Italy and is usually seasoned with olive oil, salt, sometimes herbs, and may at times be topped with onion, cheese and meat. It might also be flavored with a number of vegetables. Focaccia can be used as a side to many meals, as a base for pizza, or as sandwich bread.

There is a local restaurant that gives you a small focaccia loaf with some olive oil and herbs, that is really good! I've been conisdering making it, but not sure if I'd be able to make it as well as the restaurants do. Though, I had never known it was Italian! For some reason I thought it was strictly Middle Eastern/Indian. Not really sure why I thought that though.

Have you ever had focaccia? Do you like it? Have you ever made any?

Oh yes, it's Italian and it's good!! So good!

The last time my sister & brother in law came to visit, we didn't remember to go eat some focaccia. For me it's like.. whatever, I can have it anytime I want, but for my family it's a unique experience! And let me tell you, when it was my turn to visit them (I just went, actually) they scolded me for not taking them to have the famous Italian focaccia at least once! LOL

There is a small pizzeria in my town also, they make the best 'pizza al trancio' and focaccia I have ever had! Each time I'm in that neighborhood I go in and buy some. Yum yum!!

I love Focaccia, especially when it is straight out of the oven. I actually bake it myself to enjoy fresh warm Focaccia. It is pretty popular in Italian restaurants in the States and not hard to find either. I like my Focaccia topped with a little cheese and olives as well as herbs. However, famous Italian Focaccia is something else, as is any food actually in Italy.

Ahh! I was never too attracted by it from the way it looked, but last time I was in Milan I bought some for the bus ride home, and wow, it was so amazing good! Not at all the sort of texture and taste I expected, actually. Was with some cherry tomatoes I think, absolutely amazing. Now, when I see pics, it does make me hungry -- I guess you have to know what it tastes like in order to really get some craving!

I'm a bit confused by the fact that there would be confusion about the origins. I mean... Focaccia. It's pretty Italian sounding and all!

Ive been baking this for years and didnt know it was italian. I thought it was middle eastern too. Uhoh silly me. But its the yummiest freshly baked.

Flat breads exist in the whole world from the start of history. What is different is just the names and sometimes the flour.
