Italy
I was wondering if you guys know any famous TV series that mention Italy, or that have had episodes filmed in Italy and all it's beauty :)

"Everybody Loves Raymond" comes to mind, they made 2 whole episodes in which the characters wet to visit some relatives living in Italy. The episodes were filmed in Anguillara Sabazia, a town outside of Rome, I still remember seeing these episodes and thinking how beautiful Italy is! (this was 14 years ago :p long, long before I first came to Italy). They filmed the streets of this small town, they filmed the characters going through town, there was a scene where Raymond buys a slice of pizza and is so impressed by how tasty it is, says it's the best pizza he ever had :D

Do you know of any other TV series or even movies, that mention Italy in such a detailed way? :)

I have watched Raymond! My mum always called him Ray-mondo! It was so funny.

Star Wars was filmed in Italy (Ep. I Royal Palac of Caserta, Ep. II Lake Como). Hannibal has some episodes in Florence.

I also know of several movies. Last year I'd watched ''Under the Tuscan Sun'' and ''Letters to Juliet''. Needless to say, they were filmed in Italy and the location is quite obvious from the title: first one in Tuscany and the second in Verona. These were quite nice. I'd liked the background and the way they'd captured the Italian monuments and such.

''The Tourist'' was filmed half in France, half Italy. Two Italian locations are Venice and Treviso. I'd watched it and I was really fascinated with the background - it was classy. This movie really could show you the lifestyle of the Italian ''aristocracy'' - the expensive galleries, theatres, ballrooms, galas... That was perhaps the only reason why I'd watched the movie to the end.

I bet there are also some of the scenes from ''Bourne'' movies that are done in Italy as well... he does travel all over the Europe, after all, so it's quite possible. I haven't watched ''The Name of the Rose'' but I have heard that it was also filmed in Italy. Aaand, don't kill me, but there's also Twilight, New Moon. One scene was filmed in Italy.

The Italian Job, of course and as said, some Star Wars ones come to mind, but also Casino Royale!

I guess I can add "Friends" as a famous TV series here. Joey Tribbiani is portrayed as an actor coming from a large Italian-American family. He's easily not my favorite character, as his portrayal in the series often shows how disconnected he was from the world around him, including his own world, s a thriving Hollywood actor. There was one episode where Joey introduces everyone to his grandmother, so there was definitely a mention there.

I think there are lots of famous shows that reflect on Italy and have had Italian actors as well. An old one is Who's The Boss. Tony Danza plays an Italian and his daughter on the show was played by Alysa Milano. The show tried to use try Italian actors when it originated.

We have had some good documentary series about Italy on UK tv. Francesco's Italy was in 4 parts, with Francesco Da Mosta doing a 'top to toe' tour of Italy, with the inevitable beautiful sights throughout. There was also a series called Italy Unpacked with an Italian chef and an English art historian doing a tour through the country, and recently there has been Alex Pollizzi's Secret Italy, also very good.

One famous movie set in Venice is the scary film Don't Look Now.
Then of course there is the wonderful Cinema Paradiso, set in Sicily.

Well, the pretty famous TV show How I Met Your Mother had this thing with moving to Rome for one year, for some of the characters. I think in One Tree Hill, it was also mentioned in the show when Karen went to study cooking in Italy. On the contrary to How I Met Your Mother, there was no moment when they made her appear on screen while she was in Italy.

The Sopranos just came to mind. It is actually a show about a mob family. It aired as an HBO series and was quite successful. It portrayed the male figurehead as the leader of the family having an upper hand and a lot of the women were always portrayed as overweight. It was very stereotypical.

A lot of HBO series are very successful. I also agree with everything you'd already said. I really loved Raymond, though! (didn't everyone?) Especially when they called him Raymondo. It just sounded so hilarious.

Everyday Italian is a cooking show that stars Giada de Laurentiis. I believe she was born in Rome and comes from a family of Italian actors and film makers. She cooks truly Italian dishes and many of her recipes come from her family. It is fun to watch because she adds a lot of Italian culture into it. The show is on the Food Network.

I love Food Network!! I also love 24 Kitchen. Sometimes Loraine Pascal has some nice ideas, which are also, on occasion, based on Italian kitchen. Her pizza dough recipe is fantastic. She makes Italian cuisine look so exciting and fresh.

The Food Network definitely has a representation of Italian Chefs. There is also the Cooking Chanel, which actually has a few cooking shows set in Italy, where the chefs throw these Italian dinner parties and cook for family. I love that they visit local stores to pick up ingredients before they start cooking. It gives me a glimpse of local Italy.

Wow, I didn't know about that. I certainly must check this out (I am always looking for new recipes - cooking is something that grandma and I love doing together and we always experiment). Is the name of the show Italian Chefs? I must have missed that part. What are your favourite spices? I know that I adore the ''Mediterranean mixture'' - I don't even know which herbs are there, but most definitely oregano, rosemary and thyme are a part of it, along with a number of other things. Spices certainly make any meal so delicious.
