Rome and the region of Lazio are the first to introduce a standard emergency number in Italy. In many other parts of the world, this has existed for quite some time but now it seems that they have woken up to the fact that it makes sense to have one number. The new number is 112 for Carabinieri, police, fire and ambulance services. The new number is currently in operation in Rome and will spread to the whole of the Lazio region by the end of 2016. The old numbers were, 112 (Carabinieri police), 113 (police), 115 (fire department) and 118 (ambulance). My question is why don’t they introduce this at a national level?
