A huge signing from Chelsea, Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina, leaving the Italian club with more than 25€ million! Great deal for Fiorentina, can they use this money to become a contender for the title?

Very decent money for Fiorentina. We'll see whether it was value for money for Chelsea or whether they should have just stuck with Schurrle.

Mourinho can't make it right all the time and in fact he has failed some signings, but I think Cuadrado is more creative than Schurrle was, so a good deal to all parts I think.

That's true. And Cuadrado's probably more willing to track back as well. Mourinho also managed to balance the books in the process of selling Schurrle. Could work out very well for Chelsea.

I think this deal is a very good one for Fiorentina, because his transfer value is at the moment on the maximum. Cuadrado is 26 years old and has at the moment the perfect age for playing football, but in two or three years his value should be about ten millions. I am not sure how profitable this transfer for Chelsea is. FC Chelsea has enough good and young players in the midfield where they are planning to station Cuadrado.

Fiorentina can buy two very good and younger players for that money. I have no current information about the plans of Fiorentina, what they are planning to do and how they want to invest the money. For me there is only one sure thing, Fiorentina made the better deal.

I'm guessing that Chelsea are looking for having a complete player that will bring success immediately. You're right, though - in a few years time there's unlikely to be a significant re-sale value. But this is also the club that got pennies back on their purchase of Fernando Torres so they're financially willing to take such risks.

That is one thing he is doing and some other clubs are not, namely Manchester City, they buy way more than they sell and I do wonder where does the financial fair-play stands in these situations.

I think Manchester City's model is unsustainable, while Chelsea at least are trying to balance the books. Selling Mata and then Schurrle reflects a new pragmatism. City, meanwhile, offloaded players that they were never going to get much for (e.g. Barry and Sinclair). We'll see how this plays out.

Yes, selling Mata to Manchester United, a direct rival! England has a different way to see things and they seem to be loaded with money, great from Fiorentina in this case that sold Cuadrado for a nice sum. ;)

Chelsea needed a smart player like Juan Cuadrado, and Fiorentina will benefit by getting money that they could spend on a high caliber player. I would say that both teams benefit substantially from this deal. Cuadrado is definitely a good replacement for Schurrle.

So far he hasn't really done much for Chelsea. Admittedly, he's only been there a few months but I do wonder when he's going to show his worth. We might have to wait until next season.
