I just had dinner with a lovely family from Milan. The main course was an amazing traditionally Milanese dish cooked using veal. The mother who was originally from Belluno (the region to the north of Venice) had learned this amazingly simple but scrumptious recipe from her Milanese in-laws.

It's thinly-sliced veal cutlets dipped in egg and breadcrumbs and then deep-fried in butter. You can eat it with a squeeze of lemon (the Milanese don't normally do this, but the Bellunese mother couldn't care less!). Give this a try the next time you go to Milan!

I don't usually eat veal but when it comes to experiencing new culinary creations of Italians... mmmmm :P

I've never had this type of food before, I only had a taste of cotoletta made out of chicken and spinach, somewhere near Naples. It was tasty and I liked it, even if the combination was a bit strange.

I've heard that in Milan, they make a very good tripe soup. I've only tried it from supermarkets and I once cooked it myself, but I'm pretty sure people from Milan are doing a way better job at it :P

Yes, tripe dishes are very common in the North and the Milanese do them exceedingly well! There are also good restaurants that serve Milanese-style aperitivos, which are appetisers eaten between 4 and 6 pm to fill the stomach before the very late Italian dinners at 8pm or even much later. They are very affordable and a Milanese friend told me poorer people will just hang around and eat more during the apperitivo hours and that's it, no need for dinner!

Absolutely! I love Milanese food! All Italian food is really good but there are regional specialties that are unique to each area. I also like the spicier arrabbiata sauce that they do further south!
