Last week, i was walking through the centre of Assisi and found some Chocolate Mortadella. I am not a huge fan of chocolate but was wondering if anyone has every tried this?

It's the first time that I have ever seen it in Italy. Do they sell this all over Italy or something unique to the Perugia province?

I have heard of "chocolate salami", but never mortadella!

I've googled it as well... nothing comes up, except for pictures of mortadella... and, by the way, the pictures (yours and the ones I saw online) don't look appetizing at all! :D
These look like real mortadella, made out of meat! I'm not a fan of those either, I prefer any other meat product to mortadella :D

I did find an article though, saying that, at one of the "Festa del cioccolato" (chocolate festival. Yes, Italy has many chocolate festivals!!) held in Castellarano (in the Reggio Emilia province), some new chocolate products appeared. They were described as different by the person who wrote the article.. among them was this chocolate mortadella.

I'm not sure I'm understanding what the product is, I've definitely never had it...
Is it mortadella with bits of chocolate or chocolate made to look like mortadella?

That's an interesting one. :) I guess, to determine whether it's meat or actual chocolate, would depend on what kind of shop you saw the intriguing chocolate mortadella in. If it was a cake or pastry shop, it would be obvious. I don't think that anyone would seriously want to mix chocolate with meat.

Oh wow, I've never heard of this type of food before. That is very interesting. I've probably seen it in my travels in Italy, but I never bothered to try it out. Maybe, if I'm lucky, there is a place that sells it here in Vancouver and I can try it out without heading back to Italy :)

it must be similar to chocolate salami, which I've actually had.
It's made from chocolate and cookies, it's just made to look like a salami.

I love chocolate salami! I was never able to prepare one myself, it always ends up too liquid :D LOL!!

About the chocolate mortadella, I have googled it again, looked at a ton of blogs that write about the chocolate mortadella, and it seems it is just a product the "chocolate masters" (a.k.a., the confectioners :) ) have created for some chocolate festivals and other events that include the selling of these confectioner's products.

Each confectioner that has worked with chocolate and other sweet products gets inventive at some point, and it seems this mortadella made out of chocolate is something kinda new.

Some bloggers saw chocolate mortadella in San Marino, at the Chocotitano (chocolate festival), others saw this product in Rome and Chillout saw it in between: in Assisi.
It seems the mysterious product has been seen in the centre of Italy :) That's all I know for now..

This is new to me, but it sounds amazing. I have never seen this before. Is it made like a Mortadella, but with chocolate instead of the meat?

I've never heard of that! It looks very interesting? Though, is it meat with chocolate or just chocolate with no meat?

Oh thank god that it is just chocolate made to look like mortadella. I saw the title and imagined a mix of meat with chocolate and it sounded so pervert! But it actually is just some fun designing. Heh. Like those marcipan potatoes! :D

Could be a fun gift for vegetarians. "Here! I swear, you'll like it!"
