I bought some Italian foodstuff over the internet and there was a box of almond biscuits that tasted out of this world. I think that they were a speciality of Florence. They were hard, small and rough. What are they called?
They might be called Biscotti. I have seen these in some fine Italian bakeries here, but am not sure if these are the ones that you are thinking about. These are rather elongated, contain almonds and are very hard to chew, but taste delicious!
Almonds are popular in Italy and I think almost every region has it's own almond biscuit recipe. They all have different names but they are all very similar in taste and texture, in my experience.
Thanks for the recipe. It looks easy enough for me to make but I'll probably double it or make the cookies smaller. All that work for only 12 cookies? I'm used to making 4 dozen!
I have a bag of almond biscuits in my kitchen, they're called cantuccini. Are they the ones you're looking for?
I eat them either for breakfast or as a snack, they're really good!
I love those almond cantuccini. I'm pretty sure that cantuccini is a traditional biscuit from the region of Tuscany and they have different flavours. I have only tried the almond ones, have to agree, that they are very good!
Yes, I heard they're from Tuscany too, but you find them everywhere anyway..
I've also had a nice conversation with an Italian lady and she asked me about Christmas traditions in my country, and I mentioned biscuits (because Santa Claus eats biscuits and drinks milk ) and she said that usually, culinary traditions that include biscuits come from the Tuscany region, they're experts at making them!
Italians love both almonds and biscuits. Always around the holidays I get a lot of almond biscuits from friends and families. I like them because they are not too sweet. They also go great with a cup of espresso of cappuccino after dinner. There are a bunch of different brands but I personally think the homemade ones are the best.
