Italy
I just realized, I don't think this forum has a list of Italy's airports :)
Each time I book a flight with the company I usually fly with, I can only choose 2 airports: either Malpensa in Milan or Orio al Serio in Bergamo, yet there are many more airports in Northern Italy.
For instance, I have some friends who have traveled to Europe this summer, and they bought their plane tickets by comparing prices of the same company, but on different airports. Prices weren't the same, so I guess it's good to know there are more airports you can choose from.

Anyway, back to the point, I thought and a map of Italy's airports would be useful for both people who want to come visit, as well as for locals who want to travel by plane.

So, here is a "map" of some major and smaller airports in Italy:

I hope it helps!

Thanks for the map! Whenever I have family coming to visit me as I am teaching here I never know quite where the closest airports are to me to where I am currently staying! This definitely helps a lot. Oh I love Italy.

This is awesome, thanks for the visual directory. This can make planning a trip a lot easier because I can explore my options with different airports.

It's true :) Some airports are really small, but still relevant :) I have some friends who often travel to Albany and they often choose to leave from the Parma airport.

The airport I always go to when visiting home is Orio al Serio.
Compared to the airport at home... it is huge! I often joke about it and compare the airport back home to a restroom,it's so small! :D haha! But I heard that there are other airports in Italy (like, Milan's airports or Rome's) that are as big as a small city!

In any case, when booking a flight, most people do it online, from home, so you get to choose the airport ahead of time. Whether it's huge or tiny, the important thing is to know how to get to it and to know it exists :)

This is so helpful, thank you Rosie. I sometimes use online calculations. I am not sure which site, but I bet many flying companies have something similar. I just type in my location and where I want to go, e.g. Bosnia - Italy and it includes all airports that are in these two countries, make calculations about time, flying, cost and I pick which I find the most suitable. You can also limit the location further, by choosing just one area, e.g. Apulia, and you only get airports in Apulia, but this map looks amazing. I'd never seen them all like this.

I see you've mentioned online booking of flights from home. That's the easiest way nowadays, I believe. You don't have to even go anywhere and you get everything done... if only we could buy the groceries online or have online sessions for the uni... sometimes I really don't feel like going anywhere...

I didn't think there'd be two airports on Sicily!!! I don't know - I always had that feeling that Sicily was small and compact... an island that you can see in a few days, four the most. I never thought it was so big, even though geographically it is. I guess compared to Italy it did seem small, so it's no wonder I'd assumed something like that.

Really good map. I just want to add that last time I was at Bergamo airport they had free wifi as well, which was nice considering it's an airport catered towards low budget airlines

I've only been to Fiumicino and it was a bit "primitive". When we checked in our bags we had to do it manually. Back home we just put them down and press a few buttons. Maybe I'm just spoiled, I dunno.

OK. Some of the airports that I've used are, Malpensa and Bologna.

Both are a doddle to get to as the motorway takes you right to the airport.

Malpensa is a fair way out of Milan so count on that if you use it. However, the train station is actually in the airport so that is an excellent way of getting to and from the airport.

You have to go by bus to Bologna to get the train. The busses are good and easy to use. Get a ticket on the bus.

Parking is cheap and easy in both airports.

Buses are asl frequent and cheap to use.

A note of caution. Parma has an airport but is not served by many airlines. It really is tiny.

This is very true and I do know that Ryanair have a few flights out of Parma. I'm pretty sure each route only has a couple of flights each week, but still, if it's close by then it could be an option.
