Campania

The Campania Region is situated in South Italy, being the second most populated region of all Italy. This Italian region includes the small Phlegraean Islands and the small island of Capri, all lying in the Mediterranean Sea. The Campania region is divided into 5 provinces: Avellino, Benevento, Caserta, Naples - Campania's capital - and Salerno. Campania is famous for its culture and ancient sites, such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, Paestum and Velia. This Italian region is also the birthplace of the famous pizza. The Amalfi Coast and Mount Vesuvius are also among the famous Italian tourist destinations.

  1. Avellino

    The Province of Avellino is part of the Campania region, in Southern Italy. There are numerous villages and small towns across the province, making it a beautiful Italian pittoresque place to visit. The city of Avellino is the capital city of the province. There are many main sights to be seen in the province, tourist destinations include the Sanctuaries of Montevergine, great place for pilgrimage, archaeological areas and medieval small towns, natural attractions such as regional parks or the Monti Piacentini and there are also some ski resorts in the area, popular among tourists.

    The Province of Benevento is part of the Campania region and is one of the many Italian places filled with history and beauty. Sights like the The Arch of Trajan, Montesarchio, Sant'Agata de' Goti or San Marco dei Cavoti are simply breathtaking. The Benevento Province is idea for tourists who wish to have a quiet vacation, discovering the wine country in the Telesina Valley, enjoying the natural setting of the region mixed with medieval remains from ancient times or visiting the small village Padre Pio grew up in, Pietrelcina.

    The Province of Caserta is situated in the Campania region in Italy and it has a population of almost 1 million inhabitants. The Royal Palace of Caserta, the largest palace and one of the largest buildings erected in Europe during the 18th century, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is part of Caserta's charm. Touristic attractions in Caserta include nature parks, nature reserves and protected areas but orchards, vineyards and olive groves are also characteristic for the region. Italian history is part of the province as well, ancient villages, museums and roman remains being part of Caserta's main sights.

    The Province of Naples is a province in the Campania region, with the famous city of Naples as its capital. There are a total of 92 comuni in the Province of Naples, where a total of about 3 million people currently live. Naples is one of Italy's most visited provinces, with the site of Pompeii being the number one tourist attraction. The Gulf of Naples is very popular as well, the three islands, Capri, Ischia and Procida being not only breathtakingly beautiful, but crowded with tourists all year long. The most visited attraction of the "Campanian Archipelago" is probably the Blue Grotto, the famous Italian blue cave.

    The Province of Salerno, part of the Campania region, is a very popular destination for tourists who wish to discover Italy. There are 158 comuni in this province, and the city of Salerno is the province's capital. The Salerno province is famous for its rocky, narrow valleys, the Gole del Calore di Felitto being a vast area where many of these gorges can be seen. The area, rich in flora and fauna, is a breathtaking sight. Historical buildings make for great tourist attractions as well, the most famous of the Salerno Province being the chapter house inside the Certosa di Padula monastery.
